Villa La Fonte, EUI The recent migration and refugee crisis has underlined the urgency of rethinking and reinforcing the EU’s migration and asylum policies. Since the adoption of the new European Agenda on Migration in May 2015, a significant number of actions have been taken by the EU to that effect. A key dimension of the new migration policy strategy is the financial one. In this seminar, two EU fellows of the Robert Schuman Centre will present their research on how budgetary and financial instruments can accompany and support the EU’s Agenda on Migration.
The paper by Alessandro D’Alfonso will focus on the internal dimension of the policies and the solidarity principle underpinning them, looking at the budgetary aspects of asylum and border management at EU and national level. The one by Heliodoro Temprano Arroyo will look at the external financial instruments that the EU is using to try to address the root causes of migration and how they can be made more effective.
