    Ulrich Krotz was Professor at the European University Institute, where he was the founding director of the EUI’s research program on Europe in the World: International Relations, International Security, World Politics, which brings together junior and established scholars from across the humanities and social sciences.

    Ulrich Krotz received his Ph.D. from Cornell University, has taught at Oxford University and Brown University, and held research positions at Harvard University, the EUI, and Princeton University. He is the author of Shaping Europe: France, Germany, and Embedded Bilateralism from the Elysée Treaty to Twenty-First Century Politics (with Joachim Schild) (Oxford University Press, hardback 2013, paperback 2015); History and Foreign Policy in France and Germany (Palgrave Macmillan, 2015); and Flying Tiger: International Relations Theory and the Politics of Advanced Weapons (Oxford University Press, 2011), and contributing co-editor of Europe’s Cold War Relations: The EC Towards a Global Role (with Kiran Klaus Patel and Federico Romero) (Bloomsbury, hardcover 2020, in press; paperback in preparation). His articles have appeared in leading journals in international relations and European politics, including the European Journal of International Relations, Foreign Policy Analysis, International Affairs, International Security, the Journal of Common Market Studies, the Journal of European Public Policy, West European Politics, and World Politics. His work has been published in English, French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Shaping Europe is being translated into Albanian and Chinese.

    His research focuses on issues of international security, peace, and conflict in changing regional and global political environments, transatlantic relations, and various aspects of European security and Europe in international affairs. He is currently completing a new research monograph entitled Divided We Stand: The EU’s Global Engagement Through Military Operations and Civilian Missions in 21st Century World Politics.
