TRIGGER projectFunded under Horizon 2020, TRIGGER – TRends In Global Governance and Europe’s Role studies the EU’s actorness and influence in global governance. As a basis for this study, it maps global governance arrangements and modes of measuring them. Against the backdrop of this research, the project also develops new ways to harness the potential of public engagement and participatory foresight in complex governance decisions. TRIGGER uses conventional social science research, coupled with advanced data science.

From 12 to 14 November 2019, TRIGGER will hold its first annual conference at the EUI. The event consists of two thematic sessions and a separate foresight workshop. On 12 November 2019, research on the relationship between EU governance and global governance will be presented, which will be followed by a seminar on AI-enabled sentiment analysis. On 13 and 14 November, a foresight workshop will aim at defining comprehensive, yet approachable, alternative futures for complex global governance. Participants will engage with experts to categorise and prioritise factors that have the greatest potential to effect global governance over the long-term, and will generate scenarios following a narrative template developed to help foster citizen engagement with complex futures.

The event is upon invitation only.
