Biography
Professor Milica Uvalić is a Visiting Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSC) at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence (Italy) since 1 November 2023 and a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe, Tirana Campus (Albania) since October 2024, teaching a course on the Single Market and the Political Economy of European Integration and Enlargement.
Previously she was Full Professor in Economics (2002- 2023) and Associate Professor in Economics (1992 – 2002) at the University of Perugia (Italy), where she taught courses on European Economic Integration, Economic development and global governance, Economics of transition, International Economics, Macroeconomics and Labour Economics.
She was also member of the United Nations Committee for Development Policy (CDP) for two terms (2008 – 2012), Public Policy Scholar at the Woodward Wilson Centre in Washington DC (2009) and Assistant Minister in the Federal government of FR Yugoslavia (2001). She holds a PhD in Economics from the European University Institute in Florence.
Research interests include Central and Eastern Europe, particularly the Western Balkans; economics of workers’ participation; comparative economic studies; European Union enlargement. She has published widely on various topics, particularly on Western Balkans’ economic development, privatization, trade, FDI, labour markets, regional cooperation, higher education and EU integration.
