Biographical note

Marina Eleftheriadou is a Research Associate at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, the European University Institute, working on the Building Resilience against Violent Extremism (BRaVE) Project.

She is also a Consulting Editor at the Centre for Mediterranean, Middle East and Islamic Studies (CEMMIS).

Before that, Dr. Eleftheriadou has been a Research Expert at the Centre for Religious Pluralism in the Middle East (CRPME), an initiative of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Moreover, she received a Postdoctoral research grant from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) to study “Radicalisation and armed violence in refugee reception centres as a result of European and national Refugee Policies”. She has held also an adjunct lecturer position at the Department of Political Science and International Relations, University of the Peloponnese.

Research Interests

Her research explores political violence, intrastate conflicts and armed non-state actors, with a focus on the Middle East region, and has been published in journals such as Terrorism and Political Violence, Small Wars & Insurgencies and The Middle East Journal. Her book Radicalisation: types, causes, international framework (in Greek) will be published by Eurasia Books by the end of 2021.
