Join Michael Jones-Correa as he explores how intergroup contact, trust, and a sense of belonging influence civic engagement among immigrants and native-born citizens.
How do immigrants integrate into receiving societies and become active citizens? This study examines interactions between immigrants and native-born residents and their impact on civic engagement for both groups. Drawing on survey data and in-depth interviews from two metropolitan areas in the United States, the research investigates how intergroup contact across different social settings shapes perceptions of trust and feelings of inclusion. It further explores how the downstream effects of contact, trust, and feeling welcomed shape a broad set of civic engagement measures.
