This event is co-organised by Cabo Verde, Dominican Republic, EU, Samoa, the UN Development Programme, and the UN Conference on Trade and Development.

Competitive and resilient digital economies of the future will depend on advanced digital network infrastructures and services built on fast, secure, trusted, and widespread connectivity. In the case of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), access to such infrastructure is often a precondition to effectively deal with multi-dimensional shocks and vulnerabilities. But infrastructure is only one dimension.

Sustainable digital solutions need to be rooted in the whole-of-society approach with humans at the centre of digital transformation and require an adequate enabling environment, including regulation and institutions.

The conference aims to take stock of the ongoing initiatives in the SIDS countries, and identify good practices, gaps, and priorities for further action, particularly in the Global Digital Compact, a UN initiative to develop shared principles for an open, free, and secure digital future.

During the event, an interactive debate will be organised in the format of a talk-show discussion. A recording will be shared afterward for a broader audience. A detailed agenda of the conference will follow shortly.
