INTRODUCTION

This Executive Training Seminar brings together scholars and policy analysts from key Russian and Western institutions for an intensive programme combining insights into Russia’s current socio-political dynamics, foreign policy, and economy.

Over the first two days of activities, participants will be exposed to multiple perspectives on the state of the Russian economy, the political economy of international sanctions, the evolution of the official rhetoric shaping Russia as a civilisational state with a distinct system of cultural values, and the shifting topography of Russia’s global projection – with a focus on its relations with Europe, China, and the Middle East.

In pursuit of a learning experience that generates actionable knowledge for participants, the Executive Training Seminar then culminates in a half-day-long scenario-building exercise. Participants are led to identify and assess relevant macro-variables – chiefly of a political and economic nature –, isolating mega trends and critical uncertainties in order to articulate alternative “futures” and discuss appropriate policies to steer from the “official future” to the preferred scenario.
