Biographical Note

Katie Kuschminder is a Research Fellow at the Global Governance Programme, Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies funded by a Rubicon Grant from The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). Katie’s research is in the field of international migration with a current focus on irregular, transit and return migration. Her current work examines irregular migrants decision making factors in transit. Katie is an affiliated researcher at Maastricht Graduate School of Governance and United Nations University-MERIT at Maastricht University. Katie obtained her PhD from Maastricht University in 2014. She has taught at the undergraduate, masters and professional level at Maastricht University.

 

Research Project

Destination or in Transit? Decision making factors of migrants in Italy

This project examines irregular migrants decision making factors in Italy including the decision to apply for asylum and/or migrate onwards from Italy, and how these decisions do or do not change over time. This results of this study will make a contribution to further understanding the different factors influencing irregular migrants decisions, and in particular the role of policies in these decisions.
