Today’s globalised world seems to be all about mobility. Yet who are today’s transnationally mobile migrants? What forms does migrants’ transnational mobility take? In what ways are they integrated in their countries of origin and in their countries of residence? And what kinds of capital do they transfer between their two ‘homes’? The ITHACA final conference focused on the links between migrants’ integration and their transnational mobility. Over the course of a two-day conference, we have explored the human, social and economic capital transfers that take place through migrants’ transnational mobility. Sessions have examined strategies of transnational mobility, the role of diasporas, and policies in the countries of origin and destination that affect migrants’ decisions to be transnationally mobile. The conference has concentrated particularly on economic transnationalism and migrant integration in order to examine the ways in which transnational mobility actually matters.
