The objective of this workshop was to present new research by senior scholars and early stage researchers on the functioning of parliamentary administrations in Europe, and in the European Union, bringing together the contributors to a forthcoming special issue of the journal Public Administration. It aimed to bridge the divide between research on public administration and bureaucracy, on the one hand, and the study of parliamentary affairs, on the other. Individual paper presentations have focused on conceptual and theoretical questions of how parliaments are being administered, on the study of the role played by civil servants working in national parliaments as well as in the European Parliament in terms of their relations with elected members, officials in EU institutions and with their counterparts in other countries.
